About Dave

At Work – David has a career of over 15 years dedicated to public service. Whether working on Beacon Hill for former Governor Deval Patrick, leading New England’s only conference dedicated to the challenges facing people of color in criminal justice careers while with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, or serving as a staff member for multiple Boston City Councilors – handling many of the roles and responsibilities of the office he now seeks – serving others through government has been David’s calling.

In the Community – David has always believed in giving back however he can, lending his time and talents to numerous civic groups throughout Boston and beyond. Whether working to advance civil rights and equity as a member of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts; helping to steward Boston’s urban parks as a member of East Boston’s PierPAC; supporting our small businesses and entrepreneurs as an East Boston Main Streets board member; or helping amplify the voices of our communities in pursuit of quality of life improvements as a member of the Greater Mattapan Neighborhood Council, David believes public service starts in your own backyard.

In the Classroom – Inspired by his mother, who went back to college as a non-traditional student and mother of 3 small children, David has always sought to learn, grow, and continue to become a more effective public servant. David has participated in leadership development programs such as the New Leaders Council; the Commonwealth Seminar program; and the Emerging Leaders Program at UMass Boston. This drive is what led David to return to school himself and earn a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Northeastern University, bringing the lessons and skills learned in the classroom to the work of the public sector every day.

At Home – David’s most cherished roles are as husband and father. David and his wife Lauren met while students at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where they connected over a love of hip-hop and began a life together. After college they settled in East Boston, where they lived for over 13 years. They moved to Dorchester to accommodate their growing family. The proud parents of a Boston Public Schools student (5) and a future BPS student (2) David & Lauren believe that the best way they can serve Boston is by instilling the values of hard-work, inclusion, curiosity, & service that were nurtured in both of them as children.

I’m running because…

1.

Government that trusts people, invests in people, and believes in people is government that truly serves people.

2.

Representation – not tokenism – is a critical component of how we build a city government that recognizes the voices of all Bostonians.

3.

The challenges facing Boston require bold, progressive ideas that center equity and deliver real results.
